Viktoria Modesta Features at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Viktoria Modesta has partnered with DRESSX, No Magic No Fun and Lilium Labs to showcase digital fashion in the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

The largest digital fashion retailer, DRESSX, joins bionic pop artist Viktoria Modesta in ‘Fashioning America: Grit to Glamour’ exhibition at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art to represent the future of fashion with a series of digital garments. The interactive installation is brought to life by virtual reality developers No Magic No Fun, and an avatar incubator Lilium Labs created by Nina Hawkins, DRESSX provided fashion looks worn by Viktoria Modesta’s personal avatar envisioning a future in which virtual fashion and designer prosthetics are a powerful form of personal expression.

The metafashion looks showcased in the Crystal Bridges exhibition were created by the DRESSX in-house brand and a 3D fashion brand Ica & Kostika. The designs represent unlimited possibilities of digital fashion design, featuring materials and silhouettes almost impossible to recreate in the physical reality. The selected digital looks include a silver metallic gown by DRESSX and glass wing dress by the Panama-based design studio Ica & Kostika.

Both designs are available for a free real-time augmented reality try-on for the exhibition visitors and DRESSX users exclusively on the DRESSX app.

‘We are proud to showcase the digital future of fashion at Crystal Bridges, together with the incredible team – Viktoria Modesta, Nina Hawkins of Lilium Labs, No Magic No Fun, and the talented designers Clara Daguin, Ica & Kostika and Cooltrede. Having worked with Viktoria Modesta and Nina Hawkins in the past, we are convinced that Viktoria’s art is a true representation of the futuristic vision and the possibilities of the 3D design to make one’s boldest dreams come true. We are honored to represent the newest chapter of the Crystal Bridges ‘Fashioning America: Grit to Glamour’ exhibition’s fashion narrative – the future of fashion – and excited to showcase the results of our work to the museum visitors’, shared Daria Shapovalova and Natalia Modenova, co-founders of DRESSX.

‘Fashion has always blurred the line between fantasy and reality and the metaverse has taken that one step further, allowing us to explore how we might dress ourselves in our dreams. I am thrilled that this pioneering installation in ‘Fashioning America’ will let visitors experience the future of fashion, in which virtual fashion and designer prosthetics are a powerful form of personal expression’, says Michelle Tolini Finamore, curator of the Fashioning America exhibition at Crystal Bridges.

‘The metaverse is a place of our imagination where alternative body and identity are encouraged. It’s an inclusive space that I hope will demonstrate the playful nature of future identity and the manifestation of our inner world’, explains Viktoria Modesta, avatar and creative director of the installation.

‘Our goal for this exhibition is to invite viewers into a multi-sensory connection with Viktoria, her dresses, and the environment through real-time interactions. This collaboration with Viktoria Modesta and DRESSX embodies the hybrid ethos that design, technology, and art can come together to deliver an experience exploring the infinite possibilities for the future of fashion and self expression’, shared Jimmy Simmons and Gonzalo Gelso, co-founders of No Magic No Fun.

Featuring more than 90 designers and iconic American labels, ‘Fashioning America: Grit to Glamour’ exhibition explores and celebrates the nation’s diverse fashion heritage and spirit of invention while spotlighting the untold stories of underrecognized and underrepresented designers, important contemporary movements shaping the industry, and American fashion’s resonance in global trends and visual culture. ‘Fashioning America’ is on view through January 30, 2023.
