Musical self-expressionist Elle Chante is back with a brand new EP following the hugely successful debut of a performance based on accessibility. ‘Penumbra’ is available to download and stream now.
It follows the release of two new singles earlier this summer showcasing a newly inspired sound, blended with the previous ethereal tones her audience has become acquainted with. In Pyre & Dirty Love Elle demonstrates a different side to her personality and music.
The new music is timely and comes alongside the creation of a new and unique show called Accessible Dreamscapes, a performance both taking the audience on the journey of Elle’s relationship with disability and demonstrating to the industry what it takes to put on a truly accessible show for everyone.
The show debuted at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music (formerly Sage Gateshead) in June thanks to a commission from the charity Unlimited. It gets its second airing at the Southbank Centre on September 7th as part of the Unlimited festival.
The build-up to the release phase of the project hasn’t been easy. In 2023, shortly after performing at Glastonbury Festival, Elle was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and needed two neck operations which could have caused permanent vocal paralysis. Those experiences have helped shape this record.
Elle said: “After a transformative year, I’m really proud to be releasing an EP that is as unique and formidable as my life experiences. Released during cancer treatment after a series of traumatic life experiences, Penumbra is a genre blending EP examining how it feels trying to shed light while being caught in the dark.”
The West-Midlands-based artist is known for working as a featured artist for much of her early career, she amassed over 7 million Spotify streams in tracks that she appeared on. Spanning many genres from Drum and Bass, deep house and future garage, she gained recognition from UKF, Liquicity and Nourish.
In June 2022 Elle released ‘Dynasty’ a 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games commission with Birmingham Music Archives. She followed that up with the release of her ‘Into the Night’ EP. With ‘Penumbra’ Elle Chante is back after a short break, and ready to show the world her new sound.
